ALLEN PARK, Mich. - Calvin Johnson doesnt spend much time trying to call attention to himself. Johnsons performance Sunday spoke loud and clear, of course. In a dazzling 329-yard effort against the Dallas Cowboys, the Detroit Lions standout fell just 7 yards shy of the NFLs single-game receiving record — and as usual, he seemed to take everything in stride after Detroits 31-30 victory. "It was definitely an aggressive mindset going into the game with the play calls and everything," Johnson said. "The whole week, it was that kind of mentality and it definitely carried over." Teammate Nate Burleson, who sat out the game with an injury, was a bit more effusive. "Hes a living legend," Burleson said. "Im not going to pat myself on the back but I feel like Ive been telling everybody how great he is for a long time, ever since I got on the team. Im just glad that everybodys able to share in moments like this." The 28-year-old Johnson is in the prime of his career. He set an NFL record last season with 1,964 yards receiving, and on Sunday he nearly surpassed Flipper Andersons single-game mark of 336 (Anderson needed overtime to reach his total in a 1989 game). Against the Cowboys, Johnson made almost every type of catch imaginable. In the first quarter, the seventh-year pro turned a short slant into an 87-yard gain by making a couple Cowboys miss in the secondary. When the drive almost stalled anyway, Matthew Stafford found Johnson on a quick pass to the right for a touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the 2. Dallas, perhaps lulled into a false sense of security by four Detroit turnovers, never came close to controlling Johnson. With the Cowboys leading 27-17 in the fourth quarter, Stafford threw deep over the middle, where the 6foot-5 "Megatron" outjumped two defenders for a 54-yard gain. "The guy goes up and makes a freak-show catch. He does it all the time," Stafford said. "The best thing about that dude is how humble he is and how much of a team player he is. I cant express it enough to you guys. I say it, you guys dont really know it because youre not in the locker room with him." Johnsons 14th and final catch of the day put the Lions in position to win the game. He beat one defender and held onto the ball while being hit hard by another. The 22-yard gain gave Detroit the ball at the Dallas 1-yard line, and Staffords quarterback sneak with 12 seconds left gave the Lions the win. "Shoot, Im going to get hit, so I might as well make the catch," Johnson said. "Ive been in that situation plenty of times where I didnt come down with it. I was like, Shoot, youre going to get hit either way, so you might as well make it." Johnson already has five 200-yard receiving games in his career, tying Hall of Famer Lance Alworths record. "Honestly, when you look at the film, it sort of creeps up on you. You dont really see it as being that kind of day because you just expect so many of those plays," Detroit coach Jim Schwartz said. "Hes a big-play machine. When hes covered, hes still open." Before the 2012 season, the Lions gave Johnson a $132 million, eight-year contract — and the size of that deal is almost an afterthought now because of how well he has played. On Sunday, Johnson overshadowed Dez Bryant, his Dallas counterpart, even though Bryant caught a couple touchdown passes himself. "Nobodys Calvin Johnson. Thats not a shot toward Dez," Burleson said. "You cant compare Calvin to mere mortals." After Sundays game, pretty much any superlative seemed to fit. "The greatest. The dude is amazing. The guy doesnt say anything," Lions offensive lineman Rob Sims said. "He lets his hands do the talking. The guy is unreal, hes a great person, a great teammate and I am happy I have the opportunity to play with him in my career." Marcin Gortat Jersey . Not Peyton Manning. Lyon, Valencia and AZ Alkmaar will also be in Fridays draw in Nyon, Switzerland, where the team to avoid will be Juventus -- even though the Italian champions made heavy work of their all-Italian last-16 match against Fiorentina. Watney earned 18 points at Montreux Golf and Country Club. Players receive 8 points for double eagle, 5 for eagle, 2 for birdie, 0 for par, minus-1 for bogey and minus-3 for double bogey or worse. "Im very pleased with the way I played today," said Watney, from Fresno, California. "This is pretty close to home. So its nice to see a lot of friends and family. Im enjoying myself and hope it continues like this." Watney is making his first appearance in the event since 2008 after failing to qualify for the World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational. Hes 124th in the FedEx Cup standings, with the top 125 getting into The Barclays -- the playoff opener that he won in 2012 for the last of his five PGA Tour titles. "You definitely dont want to miss tournaments and not qualify for tournaments," said Watney, who hasnt had a top-10 finish since finishing second in the 2013 BMW Championship. "So its definitely a factor. But if you tee off thinking about that, you probably wont play as well as you should." Geoff Ogilvy and Tim Wilkinson were tied for second. Ogilvy, the Australian who won the 2006 U.S. Open, had eight birdies in his bogey-free round. Wilkinson, from New Zealand, had nine birdies and two bogeys. "It was there for the taking," said Ogilvy, 151st in the FedEx Cup standings. "I birdied the holes I was supposed to." Chad Campbell and Scotlands Martin Laird were fouurth at 13 points, and 2009 winner John Rollins was another point back along with Kevin Chappell, John Huh and Wes Roach.dddddddddddd Watney closed his afternoon round with a birdie on the par-5 18th. He also birdied Nos. 2, 4, 8-10 and 13-15. "It seems to be pretty calm in the mornings around here and then the wind kicks up," Watney said. "Its just another factor, combined with the elevation and the uphills and downhills. Definitely gets your attention. We were very happy to get the round in with no rain because if we had to come back tomorrow and play extra holes, this is one of the toughest walks we have. So its nice to get it in and definitely sleep well tonight." Ogilvy, making his first appearance in the event since 2002, won the last of his seven PGA Tour titles in 2010. He has only two top-25 finishes this season and has missed 11 cuts in 20 events. "I played well," said Ogilvy, coming off a 34th-place tie last week in Montreal in the Canadian Open. "Kind of weird. Was a bit 50-50 on actually coming here. Even after last week, I was kind of just frustrated and not making enough birdies really. I thought, Well, Im going to come and make 18 pars and not score enough points." Wilkinson, winless on the PGA Tour, is 108th in the FedEx Cup standings. He birdied the final five holes on the back nine. "I enjoy it out there," Wilkinson said. "Good scenery." Twenty-time PGA Tour winner Davis Love III had two points. He turned 50 in April. Gary Woodland, the winner last year, is playing in the WGC event in Ohio.
